About Us

At the core of Firey String Sistas, are three powerhouse females, Nioka Workman (Founder) , Marlene Rice and Mala Waldron. Together the ‘Sistas infuse world , global , ‘head bopping’ soul and Jazz to create an exciting new sound for violin, cello, bass, piano and percussion,. Firey String Sistas’ weave family traditions, issues like climate change, causes of the pandemic and message of encouragement into their music. The ensemble strives to amplify the voices of women by introducing dynamic acoustic and electric artists on live stage platforms.

History

Firey String Sistas have just returned from Albuquerque, New Mexico and Santa Fe thanks to the South Arts Jazz Roads 2023 grant. The ‘Sistas have also appeared on numerous festivals including; the Greater Hartford Jazz Festival, Race Street Live/Gateway City Arts (VJI), Berkeley Theater Greenwich , Hartford Jazz Society -Bushnell Park , Paul Brown Monday Night Jazz Series, International Jazz Day@WWD, Afro Fete ,Schomburg Center/New York Public Library, Hudson River Museum, Hudson River Museum/Amphitheater Yonkers, Sugar Hill Music Festival , Baby Grand Jazz Series, Springfield Jazz and Roots Festival and International African Arts Festival, NYC
